At the end of World War Two, the Nazi's were keen to win at any cost.
They turned again and again to whatever scientific advancements might
turn the war in their favor, putting more resources into increasingly
stranger machines. One such machine is the 3-enigined Blohm-Voss BV-170
fighter.
This
is just an artists' interpretation, as it's unknown if any were
actually built. Blueprints existed at the time to create a very fast
fighter capable of delivering ordinance, outrunning Allied fighters. The
principles in question were sound enough, but the collapse of the 3rd
Reich made sure it never flew for the axis.
Today, questions remain as to how information about this plane was used
during the early days of the cold war. The plane does bear a passing
resemblance to a few early jets- most notably the F-89 Scorpion Fighter
of the 1950's.
Had the BV-170 been built, would it have provided the axis with the bombing power to halt the Allies? That remains a mystery.
