Google's immensely popular Gmail system (formerly standing for Garfield Mail, seriously) was stricken with a bug recently that caused it's filtering to go haywire for a period of about 8 hours. Only some users were affected. However, the issue cast a light on the mysterious, purposefully obscured algorithms that run Google and it's properties.
