National Public Radio (NPR), one of the United States biggest news outlets has changed the theme song for it's Morning Edition news program, which has been the same piece of smooth-listening music since 1979. The change comes amid a concerted effort from NPR to shift focus from the radio waves they dominate over to the digital marketplace- namely phone listeners who may want to hear Morning Edition in a more "podcast" format. Whether this sticks around, or becomes a strictly online measure remains to be seen.
