In a move that has privacy advocates and the general populace cheering, the powers that be in San Francisco have barred law enforcement and city programs from using facial recognition software. While San Francisco's police department was upset, they've been in the news quite a bit lately for overstepping their authority in pursuit of their own aims, so there may be some bias there.
