In a historic first, the People's Republic of China has landed an autonomous vehicle onto the dark side of the moon, the first man-made object to ever do so. The Chang'e 4 (I have no idea how they pronounce that, as I've heard it numerous ways) set down in a crater on the dark side of the moon and is doing what rovers do best, gathering samples, data, and photos for everyone here on Earth.

It'll be interesting to see what the Chinese spacecraft sends back over the coming weeks. It's predecessor, Jade Rabbit, operated for over 900 days- if the rover lasts half as long, it'll still bring back tons of valuable data!

China, using the rover as the test bed, was the first nation to grow plants on the moon- a pretty amazing feat. They died shortly thereafter, but still, mad props to China for pulling it off.
