In YOUR opinion, which would be worse- to be a gunner in the infamous "Ball Turret" in the belly of a Boeing B-17, or a defensive gunner in one of the nacelle gunner positions on a Soviet PE-8 Bomber, the Soviet World War Two equivalent of the B-17.

The B-17 would be much worse.
I'd think the rotation and the squeeze in there would be totally miserable for the fly over. Cramped, cold, dead in some cases. Yikes.

Any particular reason beyond it just being Russian? The only reason I ask is what put that above the deathtrap ball turret for you.

In the Russian aircraft you would almost always be seated upright. Not so in the B-17.
