Google, one of the world's many mighty tech giants, is in hot water for firing Timnit Gebru, a senior artificial intelligence researcher who is of Ethiopian origin. Gebru co-authored a paper on unethical uses of artificial intelligence which Google demanded she retract, as it put an unflattering light on some Google practices within their own AI development programs that placed a racial bias on people of color. When Gebru offered to compromise, Google fired her.
