The Indonesian Submarine KRI Nanggala (402) was travelling roughly 60 miles north of the island of Bali when the Indonesian navy lost contact with it. The submarine was participating in a military exercise intended to help ward off the Chinese who have been increasingly aggressive with their warships in Indonesian waters. A search effort is already underway, with assistance from Australia coming in case of a rescue operation.

Unfortunately, this missing submarine story does not have a happy ending. The submarine has been located in pieces on the sea floor. Now comes the difficult task of discerning what went wrong.
