The CenterPoint MarketPlace was better known to us locals as the "Stevens Point Mall" or just "The Point Mall". The other nearby malls were called "Marshfield Mall" (Marshfield WI) and Rapids Mall (Wisconsin Rapids) respectively, so the name stuck. I recall shopping there a few times in the mid 2000's. As nice as it was (it was a beauty to look at in my opinion) it's a cautionary tale about how NOT to build a mall.

Microsoft's satellite photos show the Mall still standing, but Google Earth's more recent satellite pictures tell a different tale. Check these out...

However, even Google's not totally accurate. The old west end (Where JC Penny once stood) has been demolished, and Mid State Technical College has built a snazzy new facility on the mall's grave.

Amazing to think that these huge, multi-million-dollar corporate dream boats can collapse so completely, in CenterPoint's case, less than 30 years.
