I went and saw it with my brother actually. The film itself moves along
at a blistering pace- it's like it knows it's a movie and it "needs"
certain things, so it runs through them to get to the monster fights.
But, come now, let's face it- we've seen every one of these cliches
before, and we know how this is going to end... we just want to see the
fights!
Which, let's face it, is the movie's selling point and
strong suit. If you want to watch giant robots duke it out with colossal
monsters, you really can't go wrong- the "movie" is just to give
reference to the series of fights about to unfold. Oddly enough, I'm
okay with that. I doubt very much anyone goes to a film like this
expecting anything more than this, and it wasn't insufferable like the
Transformers franchise has become. At least that's my 2 cents.
