In a surprise twist, American automakers (Ford, Chrysler, and General Motors), are having a hard time selling sedans and other smaller cars to American buyers. While Big trucks, vans, and SUV sales are doing great with low gas prices and whatnot, they can't seem to edge out the imports like Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Hyundai, and so on. This is so bad that Ford is planning to cut it's sedan lines to two cars- a fuel-efficient hybrid hatchback thing to replace the Fusion/Fiesta, and a continuation of the Mustang.
GM appears to be following the trend, though how much they plan to cut isn't quite evident yet. How much Chrysler plans to cut back is unknown- as a branch of Fiat, it seems more likely that those decisions would be made by their Italian owners than whoever is still working in Detroit for them.
