Some Excellent Emails from Reputable People | Forum

As you may have guessed from the title, the following are some emails I've received from some very reputable people and organizations, none of which are scammers or anything like that.

These are cataloged from three places, my old vending business email (which has been plastered on vending machines all across Wisconsin over the last few years), my personal email, and finally the "admin" email for MetaJolt which catches spam not only from direct mailings, but also from forms on MetaJolt proper that filter back through.

If you have some Excellent emails to share too, feel free to post them, and don't forget to share the names of the very reputable people that sent them!

So, without further ado, enjoy!

Wow, a United States Special Investigator has stopped all those other scammers for me, and instead wants to reconnect me with my $6.5 Million inheritance (?) but he only communicates via text message. Yikes, I knew that the Trump administration was cutting budgets, but you'd think they'd be able to spare Mr. Patrick Morrissey a flip phone at the very least.

Oh boy, what am I going to spend my totally real and not at all imaginary millions on?

Perfect.

Found a phishing email. For those that don't know (and most email programs are really good at weeding these out before you see em') a Phishing email is where some scam artist tries very hard to look like a legitimate organization in an effort to get more personal information, ostensibly so they would have more information to launch yet more scams. The key phrase is "try very hard" because while some are very convincing, others look like this.

My favorite part about these last few is that they all seem to want to undercut each other by telling their victims to stop talking to anyone else but them. This one even goes so far as to tell their victim (me, I guess?) to stop talking to "anybody" on the Internet entirely.

But hey, US Bank is going to give me $5 million dollars for some reason, and all I have to do is send my personal information to their gmail address. I'm sure US Bank, one of the world's foremost financial institutions does most of it's business via free web mail provided by Google. Makes perfect sense.

Man, the US Bank is handing out money left, right, and center today.

It reads very much like the last one (perhaps they're all just copypasta of each others scam scripts), but the neat font and the "Congratulations in Advance" made this one a little more snazzy at least.

Here's another one similar to Patrick's email from on top, but this time it's the US Federal Reserve, and it's for 40 million bucks. Have a look!

Now, as much as I would like $40,200,000.00 USD, there are a few things amiss with Mike Watson's email here. Firstly, everything. But, a couple things to point out that made me smile-
-.JP is the "national" domain for Japan. Curious that a US agency would operate overseas...
-Is anyone actually dumb enough to believe a dottering antique like the Federal Reserve wouldn't send you a letter in the mail like it's 1870 first?
-What the hell is a bank 'swift' code? Now they're just making stuff up.

Now here's a classic scam used to hook little old ladies mostly. It hinges on sympathy, religious obligation, and greed. A potent cocktail, I know. The problem for the scammer though is that you need the IQ of an empty fish tank to fall for something this blatant.

Again this one is from well out of the country, this one has a .BR address, so it's coming out of Brazil. Pretty cool that a dying man would give $8 Million USD to a random stranger, which I'm sure is totally what is actually going on for certain. A moment of silence for our dearly departed pal Dennis Jefferson!

Hey, got a fresh one!

From what I can figure, it looks like two different copypasta emails got squished together into some incoherent ramble about national security and some sort of funds- $88 whole dollars according to the bottom of the email. Weird, very weird.

So, I've gone out of my way to reply to some of these with my throwaway email, where I am known as "Monty Morroe" and I use this to dodge piles of spam emails when I sign up for discount services and membership programs (I'm looking at YOU Petco!).

Needless to say, the disparity between the spammer sending an email to my vending business and then getting a reply from some eager rando named Monty should prove pretty funny. These guys are mighty dumb, so we'll see how much fun we can have with them...

I sure hope they can tell me what an MTV or MVX/R Officer is, I sure don't know!

Well, it sure looks professional, and based out of Hong Kong from the looks of it. perhaps masquerading as a legit Hong Kong business; at any rate, props for effort. But wait, there's more!

So, Feng Wang wants to know a whole battery of things, like which country I live in, what my "bank name" is, and more interesting, what my "position" in the company will be...

Let's see what they have to say to this. I don't know about you guys, but I'm already pretty excited about my new VP job!

PLZ DONT BE MAD QUINCY. (chuckle)

I regret that Yahoo has since deleted the entire inbox for Monty, so none of the remainder was retrievable. Thankfully, I've got more weirdness to share at the very least.

This is what reminded me of this thread, a phishing email masquerading as Google proper. Strange...

Okay, this is the big one, and one of maybe a dozen that were sent in rapid succession about 6 months ago. I got these through the MetaJolt emails (all of them), the Fortress email, and even email forwards for sites that don't exist anymore (Hetzerworld, Mystery Atlas). It's obvious scareware, but I give em' points for the write up. Forewarning for naugty language and extreme edginess!

I gotta say though, Bitcoin is virtually untrackable, and if even one idiot falls for this the "hacker" (who did nothing more than write a scary email) gets paid for a crime they technically didn't even commit. Like, it's pretty a pretty despicable act, but in a lowkey impressive sort of way. Anyway, if you ever see something like this, it's fake.

The cherry on top for the extreme haxor there is this, the emoji's on the subject line. Very nice touch.

So here's something I've seen a lot of, mostly in my "publicly listed" emails, as they're pretty obvious efforts to steal personal info. The idea is you have to "unsubscribe" by putting in your personal data, and they're hoping to catch idiots who might panic when they think they may have accidentally signed up for some actual adult content site's mail list. This one is unique in that it's clearly formatted (badly) for a phone. Also, it offers me the best for a better life- whatever the hell that means.

Oh, every link probably goes to a ransomware virus too I'd wager.

Unusual activity! Woah! Probably definitely really Google with that email address too.

I'm considering messaging them back to see what they say in reply. I'm sure it's a personal info scam, but I'm not sure exactly what they are after, nor how they might intend to get it.
